Atlanta Dream introduces star trio ahead of 2025 WNBA season

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Dream formally introduced their newest players — Brittney Griner, Brionna Jones, and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough — at a press conference on Tuesday. These high-profile acquisitions mark a significant move for the Dream as they aim to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.

Griner, a dominant force in the league, joins the team with championship experience and a reputation as one of the best centers in the game. Jones, a two-time All-Star, brings versatility and scoring power, while Walker-Kimbrough adds depth and perimeter shooting.

Team General Manager Dan Padover called the signings a "home run" for the franchise. "We finally felt like we were at a place where we were attractive," Padover said about the Dream's ability to entice three major players.

Brittney Griner credited the atmosphere of the organization and the city as the reason she chose to join the team. "I just thought it was time for my next chapter in my career, and there is such a rich history here." Griner also spoke about her evolving game, stating, "You get that experience, with playing overseas and in the Olympics, I've learned what I need to do to add to my game... and, you know, stretch my game out." She added that she looks forward to playing in the Eastern Conference and competing against a new crop of players.

Brionna Jones cited the culture and people of Atlanta as key reasons for signing with the team. "I think I chose Atlanta just because of the people... I felt that the culture they’re building here is everything they established."

Regarding her game, Jones said, "With getting older comes experience. Over the course of my career, my game has improved, and I'm excited for this new challenge to grow as a player."

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough highlighted the quality of people within the Dream organization. "I think for me, it's not just their skill set but what you hear about them as people... I just wanted to be a part of that."

She emphasized the importance of basketball IQ in her evolving game. "As players get older, IQ comes into play... for me, I think that’s been where I’ve tried to expand my game and help the team." She also noted that she continuously works on being a more versatile player.

Why Atlanta?

Each of the new additions pointed to different factors that made Atlanta the right fit for them. Walker-Kimbrough praised the investors’ commitment to players and the strong support from the city. Jones said, "I think it was just time to venture out and explore something new this year. I'm excited for this new challenge and to grow as a player."

Griner echoed those sentiments, stating, "Honesty, transparency, and people being genuine—that's what I value in relationships. I find it's hard to find that in today's world, and when you do, you've got to hold on to it."
