Should I have my impacted wisdom molars removed?
Hi! I, 25 (F) just came from the dentist to check on if I could get my overbite fixed and he said I have impacted molars on all 4 corners- so I had a scan done (attached below).
The impacted molars are not causing me any pain whatsoever- I only found out I had them a few months ago during a cleaning and was quite surprised considering I had braces in high school and my dentist didn’t suggest pulling anything out for it. But I guess the wisdom teeth grew out and now are impacted.
My parents are telling me not to do anything if it isn’t causing me problems (something along the lines too on dentists just trying to make money off of me 😭), but my dentist did recommend having it extracted to prevent eruption, which I know can happen. Only thing is for the bottom two- the dentist said that it seems the tooth itself is right next to/sticking to my nerves and they recommended I get a cbtc scan done.
When my dad found out it was close to the nerve he was scared and even more so refused to let me get them removed considering all the friends he’s had that have gotten nerve damage due to similar cases. They suggested to only do a procedure if it starts hurting/bothering me.
I’m scared because it seems like if I do have them removed (even if I’m not having any problems right now because of them) - I’ll possibly get nerve damage during the procedure. On the other hand if I leave them - they could get infected or erupt.
Just need a second opinion or any similar stories to ease my anxiety. 😓
