whatsapp unable to restore your chats from this backup. Sorry, we were unable to restore any of your message history backups.
This guide is for those who have backup whatsapp to google drive but cant even recover a single data. THIS IS VERY FRUSTATING, I SPEND A WHOLE DAY TRYING TO GET MY BACKUP, contacting google is useless they point whatsapp, also contacting whatsapp they said the file corrupt. WHATSAPP VERY SUCKS. But finally i found a tricky way to restore the whole backup just by doing this, please do every single step, and dont skip any steps.
My device : iqoo 12 and vivo phone, i tried for both device it all works.
The main Idea is to extract the whole backup data that downloaded from google drive manually and restore it manually too
- msgstore.db.crypt file in database folder
- Media folder
- Backups folder
(step 1 ) **Restore media**
- Clear storage and cache
- Uninstall with no file left
- Install app
- Give all permission
- Turn off 2 step verification on gmail that have backup
- Install whatsapp
- restart phone
- open whatsapp, login restore backup from google
- Until it said unable to restore chat from this backup, restart phone
- It will redownload again but it said restore chats never
- After the end it will said 0 message restored (ofcourse the chat wont come back), you log in into whatsapp and there is progress bar preparing downloading background media. if there is not, you are doing it wrong.
- after you finish downloading the background download.
- go to file manager android - media - com.whatsapp - media(this folder) make sure to copy all the media folder into folder outside from com-whatsapp. example download copy to download folder.
- make sure you extract it all by using file info / detail, check the file size that you copied is the same as the media folder in .com-whatsapp
- after you get your media backup, delete the whatsapp
(step 2 )**Restore chat**
- Clear cache
- Clear storage
- Uninstall app
- Allow all permission
- Turn off 2 step verification on gmail
- Restart phone
- open whatsapp Restore backup
- After 100% downloading the backup, go to file manager android - media - com.whatsapp - Databases, copy the msg.crypt backup message to any folder outside com.whatsapp. after download it will go to restoring message, Force restart at 99% restoring message
- Open whatsapp
- then you will be entering your name, next, then your chat is restored
- if this doesnt work, the msg.crypt backup message will be used for this step https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcj1ous3wcY&list=LL&index=2
(step 3) ***LAST STEP MANUALY RESTORE MEDIA DO THIS AFTER RESTORING CHAT***
- go to file manager android - media - com.whatsapp - media copy all the media you backedup in the beginning step, every each folder. example whatsapp images folder.
- in that folder delete all the 0bytes file / photo with no data, you need it so your copied data not duplicate so, it is replacing them all. then go to your backup folder, media - whatsapp images, copy all the photos to android - media - com.whatsapp - media - whatsapp images.
- there are sent data and private data, do it the same as step 2
- then you need to do it to all folder in the com.whatsapp media folder and your backup folder in order to restore them all.
- then if you did it all, the message and the media will be restored
whatsapp sucks, automatic backup doesnt work. this is the manual backup, it ate so much time to do this.
Edit: let me know if it is not working, i have gone through 30 times reinstalling whatsapp to achieve this method
