WhatsApp restore from local backup not restoring messages

I'm trying to restore my old backup by copying the WhatsApp folder to my new phone, after phone number verification WhatsApp recognises the backup, then after clicking on restore it goes to 99% then the screen to write the profile name shows. But after this all the chats are blank and no messeges restored.

Backup I'm using is 2 yrs old. I've tried with very recent backup and it works. Also this old backup once got restored somehow (force stop or some other tinkering) so I know it's not corrupted. But now I'm not able to restore.

Also once I waited it to get to 100% then it said zero message recovered.

EDIT: Solved

solution - If you're sure backup is not corrupted but WhatsApp fails to restore messages(it shows a prompt "0 messages restored" after 100% completion of restore. Do the following steps.

1) instead of WhatsApp, install gbwhatsapp(to ensure you get safe apk, go to some YouTube video about gbwhatsapp having many views and download from that video's description link)

2) copy your backup files to the gbwhatsapp folder, if it's not there manually create one(please Google about the exact naming of folder and sub folders) also you don't NEED to copy any photo video or documents, only chat backup in the database folder is needed)

3) initialise gbwhatsapp exactly same as normal one, and then it'll restore from local backup, let it restore completely. It might show the restore backup again after trying to restore once, click that again and then it'll restore all the messages.

4) either you can live with gbwhatsapp only, or if you want to get back to original WhatsApp, once your chat is recovered do the fresh backup from the gbwhatsapp, it'll save to local storage the new backup file.

5) now use this new backup file generated and copy it to original WhatsApp folder and then initialise, now the original WhatsApp will also restore. Once you've restored chats, you can move your media folder to the WhatsApp folder and they'll automatically align with chats( if some are not able to align, then you can't do anything about it, even if you do all these steps with all the files instead of just chat backup file, it will still be same, so don't waste time)

So I think this method is very fast and no random tweaking is required such as force stop, airplane mode, etc that we try with WhatsApp restore.

If something is not clear let me know in the comments.
