I (failson) have started growing herbs hydroponically

It’s nice. Got myself an aerogarden knockoff about a week ago and have been enjoying watching these little guys come out of their shells. Gotta get some pots, soil, and nutrients soon for the basil and dill before they suffocate the other plants. I worry a bit about how quickly they’re growing compared to everything else. I’ve never really taken care of anything else before — I always pawned off the responsibility of taking care of pets onto my parents as a narcissistic only child of divorce. I’m working on it.

This is more fulfilling than I thought it would be. It’s not real gardening, no, but it is growing real plants. Anithol, the signature compound that’s in anise and licorice, is probably my favorite scent at the moment. I’m growing two anise plants :) gotta find something to do with them. Maybe distilling the oil and putting it in soap? I’ve heard good things about Italian anise cookies but am currently on a cut — will probably be able to make them by the time they flower. Do I have to pollinate them and crush the seeds? Much to think about.

Green thumbs, please give me any advice or reading material that you would’ve liked when you started. I don’t want to kill my new friends due to negligence or ignorance
