Strange breeder experience?
I am hooked on the idea of a ragdoll- they’re gorgeous, they’re fluffy, their general temperament is docile and friendly. I want that baby snuggling me!
With that, I decided I’d feel better about adopting a former breeder mama and giving her the best retirement possible. I started reaching out to breeders in my state today and found myself having a strange discussion. He has one that he is considering getting rid of- he says her first litter died and if she doesn’t produce in the next 2 months then she’s useless to him and I can “just have her” but that she isn’t friendly, and hates to be pet. Of course I asked a lot of questions and his claim was that they gave her antibiotics at 6 months and she’s never been the same.
Now obviously this isn’t a great breeder. No one doing things the right way would just give a cat away for free. But she is gorgeous and I’d hate even more for him to discard her at a shelter, or on a street because he’s already claimed she’s useless.
My questions for you: -could medication have altered her disposition?
-is there a chance this is due to her environment?
-how would I even go about getting her to trust me?
I do not necessarily need the perfect ragdoll. I was going to just go to the shelter and get a cat anyway so my expectations are low and my desire to give this baby this baby a better life is high. Thoughts? Advice?
