Atheism amongst Punjabis

How common is atheism, agnosticism and humanism in Punjabis.

Going off official figures it’s extremely low. But it seems that many Punjabis use religion as an identity of their family background just like caste (hence the common terms like Jatt Sikh, Rajput Muslim and Mohyal Brahmin Hindu etc).

But if you drill down to it many don’t actually believe in God or core tenents of their religion and have very humanistic views.

In India, they don’t take atheist as an answer on census, so you have to put down a religion. And in Pakistan you’d be a fool to actually openly admit if you were an atheist.

So, in both Punjabs but also in diaspora Punjabi communities, I suspect the actual number of atheist, agnostics and humanists is way higher than is reported.
