Enforced Naps

Hi all,

Our 9 month old PWD still requires enforced naps in her crate. She doesn’t really lay down outside of her crate unless she’s chewing on something or actively getting pets, and she doesn’t go in her crate on her own accord when she’s tired. Sometimes we can tell she is soooo tired and wish she would start to realize she can doze in our spaces. We’ve tried “teaching to settle” and try to treat and give praise whenever she lays down, but to no avail. Of course, the fact that she does go to her crate and legitimately sleeps is great (given that the time out of her crate is all play and chewing so she’s tired) but did anyone else have to do similar enforced naps throughout puppyhood and adolescence? Is it safe to say we just need to await that magical 2 year mark for the possibility she’ll actually chill outside of her crate?
