5 Easy Things You Can Do This Week

A lot of people are overwhelmed + asking what they can do. Here are 5 things you can do as an act of resistance + education:

  1. Delete your Amazon subscription and X - delete the app, your account + your data***

  2. Go to the library - get a library card + check out one recommended book to read. You can use Libby and Kanopy to watch/read things from home, while supporting libraries.

  3. Join a mutual aid or volunteering group in your city. There are also a lot of virtual opportunities + groups if you're not physically able to go somewhere.

  4. Research a political movement or historical event. Look at the key players and how the US was involved. Examples - Occupy Wall Street, Black Panther Movement, Atlantic Slave Trade, AIDs Crisis, Iraq War, History of Palestine, Banana Wars, Overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, etc.

  5. Talk to one new person in your neighborhood. Some places to start: your neighbor or fellow apartment tenants, the farmers market, a local event or concert, the library, volunteering with kids or seniors, a class or adults sport league. Not everyone is a safe person, and obviously use discretion, but you never know and the first step is building up that communication + opening the door.

***I didn't include deleting Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok because a lot of people still find community on those platforms, but of course if you can -- delete those too.

Also, remember to take care of yourself. Surround yourself with community, play a game, watch a funny show or video, call a friend, hug some animals, hug each other, do a craft, sing, dance, go out, explore nature, decorate your space, wear the cute clothes, have a routine, workout, mediate, take a nice shower/bath and eat some good food. You can still enjoy life -- don't let them take away your joy. And protect your peace + stability. Even reading this post, and being on this subreddit, you are doing great.
