How safe are we here? Are others "preparing" in any way for upcoming crises during Trump round 2?

I love Massachusetts, and truly don't want to live anywhere else.

But I'm extremely concerned by what has been happening federally over the last nine days, and even though I personally am NOT one of Trump's targeted groups, I am terrified for all of us...and watching the panic among my (here legally) immigrant and LGBTQIA friends over the past week has been horrifying. I feel like the next four years could see some truly awful things, and that we might be facing both significant political unrest and a lot of economic upheaval. And I don't think it is going to take long...I suspect we are going to start seeing food shortages in a matter of weeks at this point, for example, given how much the agricultural workforce has been upended by Trump's ICE raids.

Part of me wants to be prepping and saving every dime I can because I think there's a non-zero chance that we are going to have to leave the country...but is that insane? We have major home renovations coming up, and part of me wants to cancel everything because taking out a big loan and spending a lot of $$$ on our home when the housing market may collapse (and our home is the VAST majority of our assets) and we may need to leave Massachusetts/the US seems like a bad choice... but is this just paranoia? How seriously are others taking the threat, particularly here in solidly blue MA?

(And please, can the Trump voters just go elsewhere - if you aren't worried about what is happening, you are NOT the target audience for this post)
