The Optimal Approach to Fixing our Frontcourt

We needed 1 center before AD got traded, so now we truly need 2.

I’m gonna lay out the situation/rationale first and then give my idea at the end for what we should look to do:

One of our most realistic targets that perfectly fits our needs is Robert Williams who is obviously very injury prone. This makes getting 2 quality centers even more important.

A big issue we face in trading for quality centers is trying to reach big salaries like claxton’s or Poeltl’s, which ultimately requires us to lose rotation pieces like Gabe and Rui.

We have Kleber’s 11mil salary to trade but we can’t aggregate it with other salaries since we just got him. We also can’t trade this salary for Robert Williams’ 13mil salary bc it puts us just over the apron.

Lastly, we are low on picks to attach to salaries at this point so we would benefit from making a trade to get more (like what the suns did).

The idea:

  • Trade dalton for Dayron Sharpe + draft capital (low FRPs like the Knicks 2025, or a bunch of SRPs) which would drop us to around $2-3mil under the apron

  • Trade Kleber + some of the draft capital from BKN for Robert Williams.

The result:

  • We keep our rotation pieces and our 2031 FRP
  • We get two athletic lob threats/defenders.
