Should I automate my whole home humidifier?

I have to replace the 24v transformer that powers the humidifier. The humidifier is currently controlled by an old (and ugly) Aprilair humidistat and pressure activated relay on the return.

Is the any good reason I shouldn't switch the transformer on/off with a smart switch, and delete the humidistat? An automation based on humidity from my thermostat should be really easy.
