Disappointed That My Family Didn’t Care When Home Assistant Stopped Working

I've spent years building a smart home from scratch, dedicating countless hours researching compatible products, building custom devices with ESPHome, and crafting complex automations to make life easier for everyone. Recently, I moved to a different country, leaving my family behind. For months, I managed everything remotely—maintaining automations, dashboards, and configuring updates. When something broke at the hardware level, I would guide my brother or parents through troubleshooting, like formatting HDDs or reconnecting the network. I kept encouraging my brother (who's a CS grad, by the way) to learn these things because they could be useful for him, but he kept ignoring it.

Eventually, I got tired of doing everything remotely, and the home assistant setup completely broke down. Now, nothing works—no automations, no dashboards, not even the Pi-hole instance, so browsing the internet or watching TV has become a nightmare for them. My brother hasn’t reached out for help either, probably out of shame, and honestly, it makes me regret all the time I spent building the system when they didn’t seem to care if it existed.

That said, I haven’t given up on my passion. I've already purchased my own hardware in this new country and have started rebuilding my own smart home, step by step, which keeps me happy.

Rant over.

Edit: I think most of the people misunderstood the point of the post so let me clarify a bit even though this was a rant which doesnt need clarification. First of all, all devices are functioning perfectly. Everything can be controlled manually. Its not like I left them in the dark(pun intended). Only things like automatic lights on, automatic cleaning, or quality of life automations went down. And no, the system didnt take constant maintainance. Everyone assumed like the instance was going down frequently. It was down like once a year and I have been 3-4 years out of country so its a rare occasion. Finally, I know how my family was excited, happy when things started happening on its own like robovac cleaning without starting manually although it was just a one click operation through the app. As one comment below said perfectly, when you cook something special and others are like 'meh'. So I am not blaming them I am just disappointed they went back to old ways of living even though they liked the 'smart home'.
