Customs experience through Dublin

Hey friends,

I got a few questions on my previous posts about how much I paid for taxes when going through customs for my purchases.

Before anything else, I will say this was probably the first time where I hassled about every purchase, had to provide receipts, and then giving a talk to because I wrote down $1300 versus $1305 on one.

In terms of what I purchased, it was: - Loewe Puzzle Edge: $3060 - Chanel long wallet: $1305 - Chanel pocket organizer: $750 - LV pocket organizer: $560

So a total of $5675. The officer was kind and said he would give me the benefit of the doubt (after the $1305 issue 😵‍💫) and not penalize me for failing to declare. He said it would have been about a $1000 penalty plus a bunch of other stuff.

In the past we declare and have either been waved through or the convo is super simple, we pay the tax, and off we go.

All to say, for $5675 it was $156 for taxes. My rule of thumb is to always declare, as you never know the info they have (given I had to get the Loewe bag VAT receipt stamped due to it being over 2k).

So, my excitement still stands, I got a fabulous deal on the Loewe puzzle after the 10% I got from the sales associate and the VAT I will get back.
