Diptyque fragrance smells different from in-store vs a gifted travel spray?
I've smelled L'Ombre dans l'Eau EDP in-store (from the Diptyque boutique) and distinctly remember how it smelled too vegetal for me and wrote it off.
However, I was randomly gifted a travel spray version of this from an acquaintance and the smell is way less green, and more sweet and pink rose-like; almost candied. I'd say it smells sweeter than my full bottle of Eau Rose EDP that I bought from Fragrance Buy which has some fresh greenness that I enjoy. I don't know how long she had this travel spray around before she decided to give it to me, but I do find the fragrance a lot more pleasant.
Actually a lot of my in-store testing experiences with Diptyque had their fragrances smell very "green", bitter, or barely there.
Philosykos EDP which smelled like grass cuttings when I tested it and I couldn't smell any fig or coconut.
L'eau Papier smelled like exactly like paper and ink (and not in a wearable way unless you are into extremely niche scents) and there was zero hints of steamed rice or any kind of sweetness or white musk as other people have mentioned.
Fleur De Peau was a huge disappointment in particular; I could barely smell it but whatever I did manage to pick up was a sort of faint musky smell, like the smell of a baby? But with no other notes to accompany it, it was just a strange smell that makes it hard for me to wrap my head around how it is so popular.
Have the testers in-store gone bad or is this what is actually accurate? I'm not sure what's going on?
