Work flashlight help from the enthusiasts
First off I’ve tested a lot of lights and I seem to always come back to my streamlights. I value reliability and simplicity. I’m not a fan of olight but I’m open to suggestions to change my mind (mainly due to propriety charging, marketing tactics, aggressive step-downs, and complicated ui). I’ve tried many fenix, nightcore, thrunites and I just haven’t loved any of them for work purposes.
Currently I edc a wedge-xt which I love, but it doesn’t have the candela I need for work, I value the rear switch, lo/hi modes, and easy charging. I also use a princeton tec alloy-x which also checks the boxes (upgraded to usb-c battery) but again lacks candela.
I frequently go back to my protac 1laa for work but it serves as a better backup light because of the duel fuel and non-rechargeable. This light would be perfect if it was usb-c rechargeable. I’ve tried many options to make it that way without luck (aa rechargeable lacks brightness, 14500/ 3.7v 123’s cancel low mode, rechargeable 123’s 3v overheat after a few min and step down). My other 18650 streamlights are great just too clunky.
I do lighting design. I’m frequently on ladders, and I need to see/trace equipment clearly at 20-30’ away. So I value portability and ease of use. I need to be able to click it on easily in the dark and not fumble through modes. I need a low mode so I can see backstage during shows. Also rechargeable usb-c since all my other gear has moved over to that already and I use it frequently.
Here’s my wishlist. -High candela (with spill for close-up tasks) -Somewhat small and Pocketable (also two-way clip would be a plus) -Rechargeable usb-c (external/internal doesn’t matter) -Simple UI (rear tailswitch preferable) -No more than 3 modes (ideally moonlight w/ a shortcut, medium and high) -No short step-down (would rather less lumens and more runtime) -white emitter with no overly green tint (doesn’t have to be high cri just clean looking)
Thank you! And I look forward to the suggestions.
