Why leverless controllers are so small?

I really like the look, weight, and feel of an arcade stick, but it's just not for me. I've been playing fighting games on a keyboard since 2015, so a hitbox is a much better option for me. I bought the Haute P12, and it's just like playing on a keyboard, but better. However, it's unbelievably small and terrible for lap placement. I did some research and realized that almost all leverless controllers are small, compact, lightweight, and thin. Why is that? I found an F500 Flat, which looks amazing. But are there any downsides to a leverless stick that's arcade stick-sized?
