Carnivore Critical Care
Hello, my gf and I have 2 ferrets, the older one has recently started Insulinoma and needs ear swabs every other day to maintain activity. The last 5-6 months have been fine but he recently got a little sick and lethargic. He ate on Friday a little bit but threw up a few times. Saturday he didn't eat and didn't want to have a playtime like they usually do at least twice a day.
Sunday night we started getting worried when he wouldn't eat any treats and would just 'loaf' flat on his tummy without moving. We ended up driving to get a bag of critical care and syringes to hand feed him. We gave him two small syringes full at 3 portions and 2 portions with a 20-30 second break imbetween so he could settle.
My question is this. The instructions say '6 Tbps' mixed at 1 part water 2 parts mix. We only gave him a little to test it out but the amount made in total would have taken 20-30 minutes to give our boy the entire thing. We ended up giving him 1/4th of the total amount to break him into it and let him rest.
Has anyone used this before and can tell me if we did everything correct? Is it really necessary to give him the entire mixed 6 Tbps? The amount produced from the 6 Tbps appeared to be a large amount and would take 4-6 full syringes to give him the entire dose. My gf and I didn't want to 'over do' it for this first attempt.
He's asleep and appears to be more active (especially as he started fighting against us giving it to him towards the end) which is a good sign. I just want to assure myself we didn't make any mistakes or that not giving him the entire portion is worse than taking the necessary time to get it all down.
We know this is only a temporary solution for when our boy is sick, and he will hopefully perk up and start eating on his own again soon. Anyone with first hand experience that can help give me a few answers would be greatly appreciated.
