Why build more temples?

Since the LDS corporation makes most of its decisions for the bottom line, what is to gain financially from building so many temples? Temples are extremely expensive to build and that is not including the cost of lawyer fees to fight zoning laws. Is it to reinforce indoctrination/member buy in? Or is it about presenting an image of strength and growth? It doesn't make sense for a church who is so stingy with money (ie. encourages poor members to choose tithing over rent, spends the bare minimum on charitable donations, etc . . .) to spend so much money on something that does not have monetary value. Or does it?
