Disc Rot?

I'm just wondering how common disc Rot is amongst collector's? I see a lot of discussion regarding it in communities for cds/dvds and articles online saying collections are at risk. I can't say it has ever been an issue for me. I have 35 year old cds and 25 year old dvds which still look pristine and work perfectly. Granted I have always taken care of my discs. The only time I spotted it was in a second hand disc I bought. Am I just fortunate to not have been affected or do others share my experience?
