Struggling to get in to Dragon Age Origins

With Veilguard releasing soon, and as a huge Mass Effect fan, I decided to finally give this series a try, but, I swear, I'm not having fun with Origins. The combat feels atrocious, the graphics look terrible even compared to other games at the time, and the plot so far, while offering plenty of roleplaying opportunities, is just kind of alright. While I played Inquisition once when I was a kid, when my dad got it, I haven't actually played any of the other games until now. Veilguard looks really cool, and I did rather enjoy Inquisition, but going back to Origins just feels like an absolute chore. Any advice to get some more enjoyment out of this game? I really wanna be ready for Veilguard with a completed trilogy playthrough
