Unpopular opinion: I believe the U.S. shares responsibility for Cuba’s current situation.
I believe the U.S. government has indirectly subsidized the Cuban government, helping to sustain its rule for many years. Through various forms of financial assistance, trade allowances, and backchannel economic support disguised as "subsidies" and "aid," the U.S. has contributed to keeping Cuba’s struggling economy afloat. Despite official sanctions and a decades-long embargo, certain policies and financial mechanisms have allowed the Cuban regime to maintain a level of functionality, preventing total economic collapse while simultaneously limiting genuine reform.
