The Chappell Roan Boundaries Post

Something that really stood out to me was her calling out “predatory behavior disguised as super fan behavior.” This was actually really eye opening to me. Sometimes you will hear a story about something like a female barista at Starbucks who has a regular who starts stalking them, finding out personal information thinking they know everything about them, thinking they will be in a romantic relationship with this person. We call this person a stalker, a predator, a harasser, delusional, dangerous. We encourage the woman in this story to call the police and get a restraining order.

So why is it that just because someone is famous, this behavior is now labeled as okay instead of what it really is? Imagine telling that young female barista that no, actually! They should be flattered by the attention. They are only doing this because he just likes how well she makes a coffee, and that if you give them attention they will be satisfied and go away. I can’t imagine how invalidating and horrible that would be. I’m so glad Chappell has started this conversation, and I hope the people who feel angry and called out by her posts take a look at why they feel that way, and change their behavior.
