Refilling leyline puppeteers?

These gloves run on neutron flux and after a while will run out. I have some flux and wanted to refill them but every time I try filling, either from the gloves menu or from the flux menu, I die. P.S. I'm on roleplay so have died several times trying both combos.

Anyone know what the trick is?
