UPI on BMTC buses

How does using UPI on BMTC buses for cashless payments work? Do I have to ask the conductor the fare and then pay the amount, or does scanning the QR code bring up an interface that lets me choose the origin and destination (like the Metro app)?

Is there any pre-registration required to use UPI on BMTC buses?
