The scene that made Jinx my favorite character
Jinx was always my favorite in Arcane personally since season 1 and I really enjoyed Arcane season 1, but after season 1 I didn’t fully get as invested into the show as I am now. I still thought the show was amazing and I didn’t think it was bad or anything but I remember after season 1 and the wait between season 1 and 2 just being long and the show stopped being on my mind. I kept track of season 2 and when it was coming out and was excited for it but it wasn’t my favorite show at the time or anything. After season 2 and coupling it with season 1 as well it definitely became one of my favorite shows.
This scene right here is what made Jinx my favorite. The one before she fights Warwick. I have a sorta mental list of my favorite characters I pay a lot of attention to and I always had a top 3 or 5. 2 of the 3 including Jinx are Geralt of Rivia and Batman. I won’t get into too much about why because this is the Arcane subreddit but this scene right here put her on that list up there with those two characters who have been favorites of mine for years.
The reason this scene sold me on her is because in my eyes at least (and this is my interpretation) it’s the first time that she makes a choice without the influence of someone making her feel like she needs to do something for them. It’s the first time I view where Jinx makes a meaningful choice without outside influence. She cares about someone so much she’s willing to sacrifice herself and possibly die from them. I know people refer to Isha as a plot device and I get that but I think this scene just reveals at least to me who Jinx truly was or can be. Not necessarily a hero yet as she’s done a lot of bad things and had a lot to atone for but someone who genuinely can sacrifice herself for someone she cares for and believes in. The reason it’s such a big deal is she makes this choice herself. No one makes her feel she has to. She just does because she cares enough about Isha’s safety that she’s willing to put herself on the line for it and this reflects to her later choice with Vi later in the season. Jinx could’ve ran away with Sevika and Isha and tried to get away from Warwick but she didn’t. She stood her ground and chose to protect. To me that just says a lot about her and her true character deep down.
I thought I would just share this. Since this is the scene that completely sold me on Jinx. I’m not one of the Jinx fans that makes excuses for her past actions but this scene means a lot to me because it shows me what she could be and the kind of person she is deep down.
