Are Japanese romcom authors afraid of writing their MCs relationships?

We sometimes had to spend SEASONS for them to get to where they were , yet in many damn anime, when the MCs finally became couples, they ended the series there after dumping a dumb OVA. Or did all the problems MCs faced before they confessed their love just disappeared?
