[Judgment in SOTC] Realize that people collect and enjoy watches differently.

I was just looking at a post where someone was showing off a 10 watch collection they enjoy from their first year. All fairly budget watches from brands like Seiko & Tissot, they enjoy them , and have variety (Personally not a collection I would want but it's not MY collection).

Half of the comments are basically " this is bad get a seamaster". This mindset is toxic shit imo. The advice for the watch community to only have the same 3 luxury watches. They do this under a "quality>quantity" guise, but that's BS as usually these are good brands and they never account "quality vs quality vs value vs variety vs accessibility". The post was getting flamed for having 10 watches in 1 year that was maybe worth a few thousand and gave the guy choices, but the guys commenting would buy 2 watches in a year worth 6k each & say this "The Right Way".

The way I collect is that I have 8 "situations" I find myself in throughout life that I feel more comfortable with wearing a different type of watch (work, casual, teaching, dates, party, etc.) and I will find good deals & sell and replace when I feel needed, but I wouldn't want to wear a Cartier to play in a sandbox bc it's my only watch. That works for me and 3 very high end luxury watches work for others. Don't be a snob and say sell everything you enjoy and get the same watch as everyone else. That removes the creativity and freedom of expression from the hobby.

TLDR: different people have different goals for their watches & not everyone wants to wear a 18k Rolex in every situation but has to bc they only have a 1 watch collection. In many lifestyles, people would rather spend 2k on 8 different quality choices instead.
