Me navigating the VA system.

Let me start by saying the folks that work at the VA and all the many support care groups, are pretty amazing. But the system is bonkers. I’d like to think of myself as a capable person. I have worked on high stress and very complex projects. Nothing has ever seemed so overwhelming and frustrating as trying to get my dad his VA benefits.

It’s a lot worse for Vietnam vets because the records are a mess. And they didn’t have the resources then that they have now so many of these guys didn’t know what was available. That coupled with his generation never asking for help or admitting problems, just makes it more difficult. The man was shot in the face and still went back into the field after his men. The man could have an arm falling off and he’ll tell us he’s fine. We only recently got my dad to admit and understand he’s had ptsd and was exposed to burn holes and agent orange and most of what he’s going through now is because of that. His health has been declining and now he’s just sad. 😞

Thankfully VA workers understand it and have been working really hard to help us. They said it’s so common.

In the meantime, I’m still in the VA rabbit hole. 🕳️ thank god for the agencies of veterans that are helping us. 🙏🏼
