Add to your prepper intel: the 3 A's of fighting authoritarian narratives
See below for countering the onslaught of narratives. And in the meantime... we can't do everything, but we can all do something. Right now, the absolute most important thing that we each MUST do is contact our Dem senators and demand the following from each of them:
1. Deny a Quorum: In most cases if Republicans don't have 51 votes in the chamber, Democrats can walk out and shut down Senate business entirely.
2. Block Unanimous Consent: Object to every procedural shortcut, forcing Republicans to take the longest possible route for every step of the confirmation process.
3. Max Out Debate Time: Use all 30 hours of debate on Vought to expose Project 2025, Musk's Treasury takeover, and the funding freeze.
4. Delay and Disrupt: Force roll-call votes, quorum calls, and procedural delays to slow everything down.
5. Blanket Opposition: Democrats cannot continue to vote for Trump's other nominees, helping to install more MAGA loyalists into powerful positions in the federal government while this power grab continues.
6. No Business as Usual: This is a constitutional crisis. Democrats must abandon the old rules and fight with everything they have.
All current Senator phone numbers are here. Just add 202-22 in front of the 5 digit number. Call yours, now. And then again tomorrow.
If you're afraid to call, here's some useful things to know. I used to work in senate constituent services and took calls all day .
-Your senator is greatly influenced by the opinion of their staffers, so be nice to them.
-100 people calling and saying the same thing is REALLY powerful. Especially if it ties up the entire day. Taking the call, entering it into the data system, making notations for your boss, it's a whole process.
-You don’t need to be an expert—just be clear, polite, and direct. Nobody is going to challenge you over the phone.
-Call your senator from your state. They prioritize constituents over out-of-state callers.
-If phone anxiety is a problem, write a script out or practice out loud before you call. I strongly encourage a phone call over an email- they carry much more weight and are harder to ignore.
-Staffers know that you might be nervous when you call. We hear lots of shaky voices. We know it means that you aren't one of our usual callers and that this must be something significant if you are calling even though you are anxious. Let your anxiety be your friend here.
And now onto the 3 A's:
--------
Appeal: Build connections
Lean on your social circles—friends, family, and colleagues. Stay connected, stay talking. Widen your community. Arrange more hang-outs and coffee dates. Take an art class. Help your people when they need it, and tell your people when you need it. Fear thrives in isolation.
Affirm Positive Norms: Reinforce the values you want to see
Speak up about what your community stands for, whether in person or online. Share stories and examples of positive, collective action in your circles. Challenge fear-based propaganda with stories of shared humanity and community. Don’t just react to the news- create your own & set the agenda by showing what freedom and joy look like.
Act: Take meaningful steps in your everyday life.
Call out misinformation and propaganda when you see it- without repeating it. Support organizations and individuals working to counter division and disinformation. Support quality independent journalism. Most indie journalists and outlets have newsletters to which you can subscribe. Organize or participate in discussions, protests, book clubs, rallies, etc.
Remember, authoritarianism succeeds when people feel powerless. Strengthening our connections to each other strengthens our power.
SOCIAL MEDIA DO’S AND DON’TS
DO’s
- Verify Before Sharing – Always fact-check news using reputable sources before reposting or reacting. For example, please don’t post about an ICE raid unless you’ve verified it. Remember: the regime wants to be seen as omnipresent to create panic and despair, so don’t do their bidding by sharing something you aren’t sure is true.
- Amplify Reliable Voices – Support experts, activists, and marginalized voices combating disinformation.
- Use Screenshots for Misinformation – If calling out false information, use screenshots instead of linking directly so you don’t boost engagement for bad actors.
- Report and Block Bots/Trolls – Many disinformation accounts are automated or paid operatives. Report and move on instead of engaging.
DON’Ts
- Don’t Share Without Reading – Clickbait headlines are designed to mislead. Always read the full article before posting.
- Don’t Fall for Rage Bait – Outrage-driven posts (even if accurate) often serve to exhaust and distract. Stay focused on actionable issues.
- Don’t Engage with Obvious Trolls – Their goal is to waste your time and flood the discourse with noise. Starve them of attention.
- Don’t Assume Screenshots and Pictures are Real – Bad actors often use fake photos to spread false narratives. Check original sources.
- Don’t Share Disinformation to “Debunk” It – This will spread a false narrative further. They know they’re lying - they want to outrage you so that you share their narrative to spread it.
- Don’t Let Social Media Be Your Only Action – Posting isn’t enough. Get involved in your community, support trustworthy journalism, and take real-world action.
