Media that tricks you into feeling nostalgia for something you haven't actually experienced

I absolutely adore this trope, and it's mainly because it's a feels and vibes thing. A show or a game or a book managing to paint a picture of remembrance and longing for the past, that it tricks even the out of universe viewer.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's is a very recent example, for obvious reasons. I don't think Ive ever been that invested in a group of Episode 1 characters that fast, and the journey they left behind

Similarly, Cowboy Bebop has an even more melancholy take on this. The crew's respective pasts, revealed piecemeal, draw the viewer in. The fact that not every detail gets revealed allows for a bit of mystery even by the very end. And the longing remains
