List of plot lines that went nowhere

Girlfriend and I can't even comprehend what a shit-show we just watched. I don't think I've ever been this upset at a show...because at the end of the day, it's a damn show, but it straight up feels disrespectful from Issa Lopez to bait viewers in with the s1 call backs and references knowing that this would drive viewership up and keep them coming back, hoping for a payoff, only for it to not even matter.

Here are all the plot lines that literally went nowhere:

  • Tuttle Corp name drop, seemingly suggesting the Tuttle's and their pedophile ring/ritualistic sacrifices had some type of hand in the corpcicle, ends up being a bait for s1 "fanboys and bros" as Lopez would put it

  • Travis/Rose Cohle, again another bait, seemingly suggesting that there is a strong connection to the events which occured in s1, ends up going nowhere, and while Rose's character was actually one of the redeeming qualities of the show, her entire side plot had virtually no impact on the ending

  • "THEY DIDNT FREEZE TO DEATH". They spent nearly an entire episode at an ice rink waiting for the bodies to unthaw so they could perform an autopsy, only to call in a veterinarian and have them confirm that "this is not how you freeze to death". Of course, logically, they did end up freezing to death. Classic Night Country stuff.

  • Oliver Tagaq, the engineer/electrician/maitenance guy for Tsalal, they made him out to be a pivotal person of interest, only to have him disappear and again not have any direct involvement with the ending/murders, and again with the cyptic stone with the Carcosa spiral which ended up not being related to Carcosa at all? Like...what? Who left the stone there after he left his shed, and why bother drawing a spiral on it? There was no cult, as the end murder was mob justice girl boss action.

  • Clark's trailer with all the voodoo scribbling and drawings...also ended up being a bait and switch to keep s1 viewer retention returning each week, as this director made it very obvious that she only cares about the viewership and the positive reviews...so much so she resorted to begging for votes on RT publicly on twitter...jesus christ. The trailer ended up being a non-factor again like the others...none of the symbolism tied into the murders..and Clark, who was seemingly described as unhinged, crazy, often muttering and talking to himself, sounded quite coherent and lucid when being interviewed and tortured by Navarro & Danvers.

  • Clark going into a seizure coincidentally at the time of the power outage...???? I'm not sure what the point of this was, it was later revealed that the cleaning ladies stormed in and took them by surprise, why would he have had gone into a standing seizure coincidentally when the power and lights were flickering?

  • Annie's death footage. On her cellphone, it seemed to show her finding the "secret" which ended up being the hidden cave containing all the information, and it cut off with her screams in yet another overdone trope. Yet somehow, without any prior PhD or academic experience in the field of microbiology, she somehow inferred from a few left out in the open papers and deciphered exactly what was happening. Though later on, when Clark was recounting the timeline of events, she was interrupted while smashing all the footage by Dr Lund, with no cellphone in hand. Another oversight?

I'm sure there's more, but my god, what a mess. It feels worse knowing that this director, and the coincidental number of new true detective fans who conveniently joined into support her & "mArGinAlizED gROupS" while openly admitting to not watching season 1, will just disregard any and all criticism as misogynists or racists, probably both.
