What am I doing wrong??

This is my fourth and fifth attempt at making sourdough starter. I a feeding once a day (1:1:1) with all-purpose unbleached flour.

Every attempt I’ve done ends up like this. It gets really thick and looks dead by day 7. There are no bubbles and no rising.

(ps the photos are what they look like 24 hours after being feed)

Am I doing something wrong? Do I just keep going?
