Anyone else tend to prefer otomeisekai to most other "wish fulfillment" romances because they're more likely to have the MC and ML on fairly equal footing?
One thing I noticed about the vast majority of popular m/f romances aimed at women is that they tend to abuse the average/poor/"relatable" MC× Rich/Powerful/Handsome ML trope a lot and yeah I get that it's all wish fulfillment but it makes the storylines so numbingly bland and limiting it's aggravating(Contemporary billionaire romances, werewolf romances, Ceo romances etc)
I feel like while OtomeIsekai obviously does the whole "The ML MUST be richer, more powerful and more talented" schtik, it tends to have the MCs be on fairly equal or near equal status as the ML and doesn't box them into the strict power dynamic that comes with the basic "average girl×powerful guy" dynamic if majority of the stories were to be something like Prince×Comonner, Duke×Maid or Emperor×Slave( though these stories obviously exist in the genre but they're very very far from being definining tropes)
I guess I just appreciate the fact that for all it's shortcomings, otomeisekai as a whole tends to not chain the MCs into being relatable self inserts and actually makes them quite unique(no matter how aggravating they can be lol) and aren't as obsessed with having the main leads in entirely different social class extremes
