TLDR:

The man marked by flames is Scylla who has the devil fruit of Charybdis

In Greek mythology there is a story about 2 beings Charybdis & Scylla who lived off the Strait of Messina.

Charybdis was a sea monster that was either represented as a sea monster that created whirl pools or was a whirlpool herself

Three times a day, Charybdis swallowed a huge amount of water, before belching it back out again, creating large whirlpools capable of dragging a ship underwater.

Another myth makes Charybdis the daughter of Poseidon and Gaia and living as a loyal servant to her father.

Charybdis aided her father Poseidon in his feud with her paternal uncle Zeus and, as such, helped him engulf lands and islands in water

Scylla was a nymph who got turned into a monster by the jealous Nereid Amphitrite

In a late Greek myth, recorded in Eustathius' commentary on Homer and John Tzetzes,Heracles encountered Scylla during a journey to Sicily and slew her. Her father, the sea-god Phorcys, then applied flaming torches to her body and restored her to life

They exited near the Strait of Messina which is known for creating a phenomena known as Fata Morgana (mirage)). One famous example that is thought to be caused by this phenomenon is the Flying Dutchman. When the ship is seen through a mirage it will look pitch black.

This ship looks black from far away

Im sorry this theory is not really a theory and more of a random selection of facts. I just have so many ideas right now and can't explain them all at once. I want to get this out there so people can discuss this before it is officially revealed.
