Shipping to Canada from USA

Is it true it’s easier to just go to the post office and ask them to help? I have someone buying some glass trinkets I make and I explained I never shipped to Canada before but was willing to try and they were eager to accept. I was looking into it and it was kinda confusing but a lot of what people said was to just go to the post office and see if they can help. Is there a way to do most of it from home to not inconvenience them? Some people said I just need to fill out the package and the USPS takes care of the rest but others mention international paperwork stuff. Thanks in advance to anyone :)
