Double edged sword

Searching 2 types of movies. Both types start of with the same type of MC: lost, confused about what to do with life or with situation. Two different types of stories tho one about finding that meaning and motivation and doing something cool or great or helping someone. Other is more about slipping deeper and deeper into confusion and pain and self destruction or destruction of others. Really interested in the contrast. Thanks
