Mojang's Update Dilemma: Why Are We Settling for Less?
It seems Mojang is going around in some vicious circle, where an attempt is made to avoid "bad" updates, but the results are not satisfactory. Of course, we are grateful for new customizability regarding datapacks and the addition of new attributes. But when will unfinished features in the game get sorted out?
For instance:
- Ancient cities still have nothing worth taking home in their portals.
- Bats got a cosmetic makeover, big whoop.
- Desert wells, strongholds, and the entire end dimension have not changed for years. What's going on?
Let’s be real: nobody uses suspicious sand for progression. That's just a fact we can all agree on.
But then, most of the ugliest biomes are hidden away.
Take mushroom islands, for example—rarer than woodland mansions and tucked away on some remote island. Then again, a grayscaled forest biome was added that offers nothing unique. They’ve just added a weeping angel to an already bland landscape. Where’s the creativity?
I expect more from a multi-million dollar game studio than trivial additions to an ever-growing pile of useless features.
Where are these half-baked updates leading us?
Ocean monuments still have added only one single feature: the ocean trimming template dropped by elder guardians. But honestly, who actually goes out to find these monuments?
- It’s just so extremely difficult to reach since players need to beat three guardians that are super hard to kill while protecting yourself in Protection IV armor—only for it to hardly hold up against the guardians' attacks.
- Rewards? Three decorative blocks and eight gold blocks are simply not worth it.
If Mojang is dead-set on doing minor updates, can’t we keep adding even more confusing wood types and biomes on the surface? I’d be totally cool if they would just keep this stuff underground.
I don't want to build my home on a cliff only to discover an unattractive grayscaled forest lurking behind it.
I find it confusing that Mojang can release a game-changing update like 1.16 and then seemingly run out of steam.
I thought the Buzzy Bees update was weak, but recent additions have had me thinking perhaps updates are simply more of a pain than a benefit for the game.
What we need are updates that actually add to the gameplay rather than fillers complicating the already existing game structure. It’s time for Mojang to rise and create content that means something.
