Do Mallu Hindus touch the feet of their parents and elders?

Same question as above. I am from a Nazarani Christian family and I never touched my parents or teachers feet (forget about elders) . Touching someone's feet is unimaginable to me. I saw Hindus in Kerala do that only in marriage and that too very less . Now I am in Uttarakhand and when my friend's parents came I saw my North Indian friends touching the parents feet for some sort of blessing. I didn't do that and was standing infront of them. They were looking at me. I felt that they felt disrespected . Even though my friend didn't say anything I felt like she also felt disappointed. So is this a Hindu cultural norm or North Indian cultural norm?
