The Side Work Debate
Anyone in here banned from doing side jobs from the company they work for? This is the most absurd thing about this industry I’ve seen in my 11 years. I’ve been on my own 4 years and still don’t get it. Are companies really that greedy? Want that much control over employees lives? Had another owner telling me about how it’s impossible for his guys to steal gas with how he watches. I just flipped IF YOU CANT TRUST THEM TO BUY FUCKING GAS WHY ARE THEY WORKING FOR YOU DUDE!? I’ve told my guys if they steal a job it’s automatically over but hell I encourage them doing jobs for themselves. Go make some money for your families. As long as they don’t use my truck or materials I don’t care. I’m sure they’ve taken something somewhere along the way but I don’t care. They help me so much I really don’t give a shit about every dollar. If someone calls your phone as a grown man asking for work who am I to tell you not to do it. There is enough work for all of us. Period. At my last job I was at Baker’s picking up some equipment when a owner from another company was like “he’d be pissed if he saw you doing side work wouldn’t he” I just said no I don’t do side work I do MY work. And let’s not act like these guys don’t know what they are doing. That put in units for people every single day. But on weekends they aren’t good enough anymore? lol. I’m honestly disgusted with how greed and big companies have fucked this industry over. A couple of my friends have told me about how their companies ban it totally and have contracts and everything. I told them get tf out while they still can. How do you guys feel about “side” work?
