My Dad a combat veteran / fishing partner - RIP
My Dad Robert would have been 96 today. He passed in 2001 after a long battle with his health. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War. Shot and wounded by artillery shells he was left for dead. Marines found him covered in snow and carried him back to his Army infantry unit. He was an X-ray technician in a mash unit and witnessed horrible injuries to soldiers & civilians. The war left a terrible mark on his psyche. He learned to fish in his 60’s after I bought a cabin in the U.P of Northern Michigan. He never killed a fish just took photos. He wouldn’t hunt with me, as he never picked up a rifle after the war. My mom who’s still with us usually out-fished him…. LOL. He was simply a good person and we miss him on the water. RIP Dad, I’m headed to his favorite lake today, a small glacier lake deep in the Ottawa National Forest full of walleye’s with Mom who turns 90 next week. Man do I miss him, what I would give to spend another summer fishing with him.
