Tips for saving money as an exchange student?
I made a post a few weeks ago and I’m grateful for all the replies. In less than a month I’ll be starting my 6 month stay in Helsinki which excites me, but I also wanna stay mindful of my spending lol.
I’ll be studying at Aalto and I heard I can get some discounts from that so that’s nice (idk how to use them so help with that is appreciated).
I’ll also be living a couple blocks from the pasila train station if it helps.
I was hoping any locals here could give me their frugal wisdom on how to spend wisely. I’ve heard that Lidl is the cheaper supermarket so I’ll use it a lot. And I’ve also heard of student discounts for public transit too.
If anyone could give me any tips on how to save money it’d be greatly appreciated. Any cheap food places near pasila or the aalto campus in otianemi, any good thrift stores, cheap things to do in the city, etc. I know Helsinki and Finland as a whole isn’t cheap by any means, specially compared to where I live, but I still wanna stay mindful of my spending.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: also once the temperatures get a bit high or I get more accustomed to it I’d like getting a bike to get around the city. Here if use Facebook marketplace for it. Is it used there? Or where would I buy used stuff like that?
