Sundered Doctrine trailer analysis
Link to trailer: Destiny 2: Heresy | Sundered Doctrine Dungeon Race Begins February 7, 9AM PT.
The trailer for the Sundered Doctrine dungeon has just dropped, so here's my quick analysis of what we shall be facing:
From the voice lines in the trailer, Savathun appears to be running tactical for us. Definitely a first, so expect a lot of possible Hive/Darkness lore references/drops.
Savathun poses a question for us, to imagine ourselves amongst the Dread. I believe that this is the first time that the Dread have been namedropped in the story itself. It appears that this dungeon will be focusing on the Dread themselves, which will also be a first as this will be the first time that we get any substantial lore on them.
Also expect a lot of secrets in this dungeon, possibly as much as Vesper's Host if we're lucky. A lot of it may have to do with the relationship between Savathun and Rhulk. Beyond that, expect additional clues as to the future of Destiny 2 leading into Frontiers and Apollo akin to Vesper's Host as well.
The location will be within Rhulk's Pyramid ship, this we have known for a while. The Pyramid itself appears to have been overrun with swamps like much of Savathun's Throne World. The combination of Throne World biome and Pyramid architecture should make for a unique environment.
The enemies that we are going to be facing in this dungeon are indeed the Dread, but we are also going to be facing Hive as well. Note: these are not the Lucent Brood or the Hidden Swarm. These are regular Hive enemies, and they are working in tandem with the Dread. Could possibly be leftovers of Xivu Arath's forces from Season of the Witch (so expect possible Wrathborn bosses/enemy units/encounters) or maybe an entirely new sect of Hive born within the ship itself.
Finally, the final boss of the dungeon appears to be a unique Psion boss. Someone suggested in the comment section that they were attempting to combine Strand and Pyramid tech together. However, the boss seems (in my opinion) to be too wide to be a Psion. Perhaps a unique Cabal Dread?
