UPDATE: buyer opened a dispute with their bank, what now?
Little update to my last post.
The buyer finally messaged me and told me the reason they opened a dispute with their bank is because the item didn’t fit them and apparently they don’t know how to open a claim with Depop since they’re not familiar with the platform. They claimed that it took them two weeks to do so because they were in the process of moving and had it shipped to a friend’s house…which I don’t really know if I believe and doesn’t dismiss the fact they never even messaged me about it before opening the dispute. They said they’d return the item as soon as possible… I told them that Depop does not cover any buyer’s remorse situations, an item not fitting them the way they want to is included in that. Especially since I had the correct sizing listed. I told them the size discrepancy is probably because the item(shoes) is made in Europe where people tend to have narrower feet, the item is also leather so it’s made to be tight.
Of course they weren’t satisfied with this and sent one of their friends to message me to lowball one of my items, to which I responded in blocking the friend (I knew they were affiliated because that was the only person following them/ that they were following) and letting them know harassment is not welcome on Depop and I would be reporting both of their accounts. I also let them know that if they continued to have the claim open with their bank and they got refunded somehow I would be taking this to small claims court or I would submit an IC3 report because the item is a couple hundred dollars- which is the whole reason this is so frustrating for me. I reminded them about 5 times I don’t have the funds in my account to refund them or I would because I obviously just want this to be over with and to get the item back/ resell it to someone who deserves it.
They said my messages felt like I was harassing them (turned it back around on me after they sent their friend at me) because I was messaging them for days (about how they opened the claim..trying to find out why..so we could easily resolve this.) and pulled the “I’m a minor” card on me in regards to me saying I was willing to take legal action over this. They also said my personal issues aren’t their problem because I was telling them why I didn’t have the money since they were so persistent about a refund- but then followed up with saying “Well you have all these expensive items listed I don’t see how you couldn’t have money if you were able to get them” as if I didn’t just tell them all the money I’m currently making is going to essentials and the items I’m selling are obviously used- meaning yah maybe I had money at some point but money goes away when you’re broke, having living place issues, and have to pay for stuff in the real world !
I tried to apologize to them for the trouble and for the fact that the item didn’t fit the way they wanted. But I also let them know that they wouldn’t be getting their money back from me, since even if there was a chargeback I don’t have sufficient funds and my bank would deny the charge. I suggested that they could sell the item on their own accord, and that it’s very simple and it would most likely sell as I only had the listing up for several hours before it was purchased. To which they didn’t reply and probably won’t.
Ultimately, I’m still upset, but at least I know why they are trying to get a refund. I still believe they are just trying to scam me because of the way everything has gone down, I just hope to get an update from Depop soon so this can be completely over and off my conscience.
