Trying to find downloads from a site that went down 8+ years ago.
I honestly don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I was pointed here by another user from another sub and I'm running out of options. I think and hope it's OK, but apologies in advance if it does not belong here.
Somewhere in the vicinity of 2015(ish), I had a hard drive failure with a drive that was partitioned for Mac and Windows both. I was backed up, but the partition made it difficult to catch everything, and a lot of sentimentally important game files from the PC side got lost. To add to this, the game is very niche-- its own subreddit has 2.7k members. Furthermore, the files I am looking for date from as early as 2001 through to 2014, when the game was still in v1. V2 came out in early 2014. It was a complete overhaul, and at this point, it is almost like v1 never existed. (The game is NoLimits (2), a roller coaster simulator.)
Most of these files came from a single website (Nolimitsexchange/NLE) that went dark without warning at nearly the EXACT same time I lost the files-- almost to the day. I was not the only player to be taken off-guard by this. There were some duplicate downloads on other sites that I was able to nab at the time, but I lost hundreds of files that were only hosted on NLE.
I have tried to find these files once or twice a year the entire time since I lost them without any luck. I've asked in game-specific forums, I asked in the subreddit, I checked the Internet Archive where you can still see some of the main pages for downloads but the files can't be downloaded (that might be kind of duh, just iterating). I've tried contacting some of the creators directly, on accounts that haven't appeared to have activity for years. (Guess how much luck I've had there!)
Am I missing anything? Can anyone think of a creative possibility for an avenue I've yet to explore? It would mean so much to be to find even a fraction of those files again, but I've long since accepted they may be gone forever. I imagine some players still have them, but it's a big ask of a stranger and regardless, I've been unable to find anyone who has said "oh yeah, I have a few of those." It's a bummer.
Thanks in advance for any potential thoughts/advice/commiseration, anything.
