It happened, cross contamination got me.

9 months now of being diagnosed with celiac disease. And just as the title states, cross contamination finally got me.

I live in NY and ever since this diagnosis I feel pretty bummed about anything that has to do with food. Not only am I T1 diabetic but now with this on top …it’s like food and I are worst enemies. I would risk it and randomly get fries (fast food) usually it was McDonald’s, maybe 3 times now that I been lucky. Until I went to Burger King….Didn’t even think about it until I got back home but it was too late! Large fry was already down the chute! And then it hit me… same fryer/ oil for chicken fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. Long story short within 30 mins I already felt the effects. By the time I got home I could barely make it up my stairs. I experience extreme inflammation and it becomes painful to walk almost instantly.

I never thought I would experience cross contamination issues since I didn’t think ‘I was that bad’. I never had the GI issues, just the instant inflammation so this was the first time ‘cross contamination’ got me and now I finally understand what everyone always writes and warns about.

Question for Reddit… do you folks feel that once you gave up gluten for months the cross contamination started? And then was more severe? Is this something that would let up over time? I secretly wish cross contamination wasn’t even a thing. But the more I think about it …in the beginning of finding out I def was risking it more so than now. Now I can barely enjoy anything. I find it so odd that now I feel the effects more so than I did before.

I really am so over this disease. I wish it would just go away.
