Has anyone taken Cholestyramine for months before seeing an improvement? Shoemaker protocol suggests improvement after only a month.
Diagnosed with CFS. Standard blood tests normal. GP stumped. Seemingly have CIRS. Fully out of exposure for at least a few months. Tested negative for MARCoNS. Taking cholestyramine. Currently no improvement.
I’ve been taking cholestyramine (CSM) for about 3 months total at various doses. I was only taking 4g four times a day for under a month due to running out and difficulties getting more. I’m still taking CSM now but at a low dose.
The doctor who works with the shoemaker practitioner I am seeing says that in her personal experience the people who respond best to CSM start to see a benefit after 2 weeks to a month (so not me). The shoemaker practitioner wants me to carry on with CSM at 3g three to four times a day.
During the first few weeks of increasing the dose from 1g a day up to 16g a day I experienced fever symptoms. Also, when I went to 3g I experienced a sudden fever like sensation where I felt like I might pass out but that only lasted half an hour. Given these experiences I’m inclined to think the CSM was doing something.
Has anyone taken CSM at 12-16g a day and seen meaningful improvements after 3-12months?
