My boyfriend left me

Hello, my boyfriend (22M) decided he wants to break up with me (22F) after three years together because he only wants success for him and his family and can't commit to me right now. I was and still am devastated this happened 4 days ago out of nowhere. I was also told that if he is unmarried by 35/40 he will come looking for me and he expects me to do the same. We used to be best friends before we had a relationship for 2 years and we have grown and supported each other unconditionally up till now. I am so confused how he could be so invested in me for such a long time and after 3 years realise he doesn't wanna be with me anymore. I don't know if I should give up on him because I think this is just a hard time he's also having some family issues which I am not aware of. The hardest part about moving on is that we work in the same company. I know he's hurt he has been crying like crazy and texting me. I have tried to be close to him and tell him that we can work this out. But I was told I will know why this happened when I find someone who truly loves me the way I want to be loved. Should I give up or keep trying?
